Monte Vista Foods is inspired by the vibrant legacy of my grandmother Eva, whose Spanish-style home in San Antonio was the heart of our family gatherings. Summers were filled with the mouthwatering aromas of her homemade tortillas, smoked meats, perfectly simmered pinto beans, and the earthy spice of dried chiles. These unforgettable flavors sparked my lifelong passion for cooking.

In 1913, my great-uncle, General Fortunato Maycotte, seeking to save his family from Pancho Villa’s army, sent two-year-old Eva and her family from Puebla, Mexico, to San Antonio, Texas, where they settled.

Eva was a trailblazer known for her cooking, business savvy, and entrepreneurial spirit. She made history as the first woman to own a parks and recreation concession license in San Antonio. She ran a beloved restaurant in Brackenridge Park, serving authentic Mexican food to locals and visitors alike. She loved hot pickled jalapeño peppers, never turned down a good dessert, and told stories of her friendship with President Lyndon Johnson, who loved her tamale pies.

My grandmother’s spirit is the inspiration behind Monte Vista Foods’ small-batch recipes, hand-crafted with the highest quality ingredients and bottled with love.
